application screens. These snapshots are used by the system for app
switching, transitions, and application state restoration, and they may
remain in SplashBoard snapshot folders as files associated with system
or third-party application identifiers.
Digital Forensics Value of iOS App Snapshots
iOS App Snapshots artifacts can provide useful context when visible
application state and recent app activity need to be reviewed. Package
names may identify which applications had cached snapshots, while
filenames, extensions, size values, and hashes can help locate,
deduplicate, and validate the related snapshot files. File-system
timestamps may help show when a snapshot file was created, modified, or
accessed, and the snapshot content itself may preserve information that
was visible on screen at the time it was cached. These records should be
correlated with application data, notifications, usage records, and

The <APP_UUID> value represents an iOS-assigned application
container identifier.

- Last Access Date/Time: Captures the file-system access time retained for the snapshot file when available.
- MD5 Hash: Contains the MD5 value calculated for the snapshot file.
- SHA1 Hash: Contains the SHA1 value calculated for the snapshot file.
